About Colorado Senior Dog Rescue and Hospice

Saving Senior Snouts

You could say we’re a little obsessed with seniors.

Creaky bones, medical messes, hard of hearing, stone-cold blind…we love it all.

About Us

Colorado Senior Dog Rescue and Hospice is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) volunteer-based animal welfare organization dedicated to rescuing senior dogs.

Senior animals are often overlooked at shelters and are the first to be euthanized. At CSDRH, we provide senior dogs with the veterinarian care and love they need and deserve.

For adoptable senior dogs, we work to find them the best home, and for those with high needs or special needs, those dogs remain with the rescue in our hospice program, where they can live out their golden years.

CSDRH also acts as a resource for local animal welfare services and a source of knowledge for senior pet care, veterinarian services, and pet ownership.

Our Mission

Our Mission is to rescue and care for homeless senior dogs in Colorado. This includes neglected dogs, medical needs dogs, disabled dogs, and abandoned dogs.

At Colorado Senior Dog Rescue and Hospice, we address all the medical needs a dog has before matching them with their forever home. That includes spay and neuter, vaccines, microchip, grooming, dental work, additional diagnostics if required, and more.

Senior dogs requiring high medical care will live out their golden years in our hospice program to receive the best care possible until they pass away.

Our Values

Compassion & Care. Our dedicated all-volunteer staff works hard with our medical and behavioral partners to provide top-notch ethical care and treatment for senior dogs in our care.

Rescue with Respect. We are a shame-free rescue that seeks to support senior dogs and their owners in need regardless of their circumstances. We believe in clear and kind communication between staff, adoptees, medical providers, and rescue partners.

Lifetime Commitment. When a dog comes into our care, we are committed to them for life. That means we never euthanize for space and will always take back dogs we’ve adopted out.

Sustainability. As a rescue, we follow recommended good business practices as a non-profit organization. That means regular financial reviews and never over-committing or depleting our resources.

Gratitude. We are immensely grateful for our donors, sponsors, supporters, adopters, partners, and volunteers. We literally could not do this work without you.

What Level Of Care Do We Provide?

Shortly after arrival, our dogs are fully vetted. They receive a comprehensive health exam where their medical needs are identified and addressed through a care plan. This can include a spay and neuter, vaccines, microchip, grooming, dental work, additional diagnostics if required, and more.

Our dogs reside in approved foster homes. The foster parent is responsible for working with CSDRH to get the dogs in their care and the medical treatment they need.

There is no time limit on how long dogs are in our care. We are committed to them until the end.

Our adoptable senior dogs are placed in adoptive homes that have been thoroughly screened. Read about our adoption process here.

Dogs that qualify for our Hospice Program will remain with their foster parent until the end of their life. They will be given the best medical treatment available and treated like one of our own.

Meet The CSDRH Team

Chaucee Stillman

CSDRH Founder & Director

Ever since volunteering with a senior dog rescue in Philadelphia over eight years ago, a seed was planted in my heart for elderly special needs dogs.

Everyone always says, “How can you do it? How can you hospice foster senior dogs that don’t have much time left?” In my mind…what’s the alternative? Even though it’s always hard to say goodbye, it’s worth all of the heartache and love because I believe that every dog deserves all the love, cuddles, treats, and soft beds, especially in their golden years.

I consider it an honor to care for senior dogs and consider this my heart’s work. Thank you to everyone who supports our mission!

When I’m not at the shelter, vet office, or picking up poop, I run my web design business from my home in the Colorado mountains. Having a business background has translated well into starting and running a non-profit. And I look forward to where CSDRH is headed.

Frequently Asked Questions

I want to adopt a dog in your hospice program. Is that possible?

CSDR dogs in our hospice care are not adoptable.

I want to surrender my senior dog, can you take them?

We do take owner surrenders on a case-by-case basis. To start the process, click here.

What does the adoption fee cover?

Your adoption fee covers a complete veterinary health exam and treatment. Each dog has unique needs, but it covers things like dental cleanings, vaccinations, and a microchip.

Do you do adoption trials?

We rarely do adoption trials because shuffling around senior dogs is unnecessarily stressful for them; however, we are committed to each dog going to the best fit possible. If you have concerns about the dog you're interested in, please reach out to our adoption coordinators at info@coseniordogrescue.com.
